K-Movie: Train to Busan (2016)

Salah satu film Korea tersukses di pertengahan 2016, ditonton lebih dari 10 juta orang menjadikan film ini sebagai film yang paling banyak di tonton di Korea Selatan untuk saat ini. Train to Busan bercerita tentang penumpang KTX (Kereta cepat Korea) yang berjuang untuk selamat di kereta ketika fenomena dan virus zombie melanda kota Seoul. Tepat sebelum KTX berangkat menggilkan stasiun Seoul, seorang gadis yang tertular virus zombie naik ke kereta dan mulai menyerang salah satu pramugari di kereta yang akhirnya menyebar ke banyak penumpang, ketika hampir sebagian dari penumpang kereta terinfeksi dan menjadi zombie disitulah mulai perjuangan penumpang lain yang selamat untuk tetap bertahan hidup. 

One of the most successful Korean movie over the half of 2016, with over 10 millions audience naming this movie as the most watched movie on 2016 so far. Train to Busan tell the story of KTX (Korean Bullet Train) passenger who trap and trying to survive on the train when the zombie epidemic strike the city.  Right before the KTX train leaves Seoul Station, a girl who later we know have been infected by the virus jumps into the train and started attacking a female attendance and spreading the virus wild to the other passenger while the most of them are infected and turn into zombie the other passenger must fight for survival. 

Dilihat dari posternya sendiri, ada 6 karakter yang menjadi sorotan dalam cerita meskipun ada beberapa karakter pendukung yang juga punya peran penting dalam cerita. Seok wook (played by Gong Yoo) adalah seorang manajer keuangan yang belum lama bercerai, ia tinggal bersama anak perempuannya Soo An (played by Kim Soo Ahn) yang jarang diberi waktu dan perhatian olehnya. Sang Hwa (played Ma Dong Seok) adalah seorang yang amat perhatian terhadap istrinya yang hamil, Sung Gyeong (played by Jung Yu Mi). Dan Yong Gook (played by Choi Woo Sik) adalah anggota tim baseball SMA yang disukai oleh Jin Hee (played by Ahn So Hee) yang ikut dalam perjalanan ke Busan. 

Based on the poster alone, there are 6 characters whom the story get centered on, Seok Wook (played by Gong Yoo) is a fund manager and divorcee who lives with his daughter Soo An (Kim Soo Ahn), he doesn't spend much time or show affection to his daughter. Sang Hwa (played by Ma Dong Seok) is a tough working class husband who were overprotective with his pregnant wife Sung Gyeong (play by Jung Yu Mi) and Yong Gook (played by Choi Woo Sik) is part of high school baseball team together also Jin Hee (played by Ahn So Hee) who have a crush on him. 

Selama ini yang kita lihat adalah zombie amerika, jadi kenapa tidak untuk Zombie Korea? Film bertema zombie sebenarnya bukanlah hal baru, terutama di industri perfilman Amerika aka Hollywood. Dari era Michael Jackson mengeluarkan video thrillernya, zombie menjadi fenomena hit dimana-mana. Dan belum lama ini, film Hollywood yang di bintangi Brad Pitt 'World War Z' dan juga tv seri The Walking Dead mengankat zombie sebagai tema mereka dan itu menjadi sebuah hit dimana-mana.  Jadi, mungkin orang Korea bilang 'kita juga bisa bikin zombie' dan munculah ide untuk film ini. 

We seen a lot of US Zombie and this time, why not Korean Zombie? Zombie theme movie isn't a new or fresh idea, especially in the US film industry a.k.a Hollywood. Ever since Michael Jackson did his thriller video, zombie has been a hit everywhere. And recently, Hollywood's World War Z and also US Hit TV Series The Walking Dead have zombie theme that been a huge hit around the world. So, if the US can make zombie why not the Korean? 

Meskipun banyak dikatakan punya banyak kesamaan dengan Worl War Z, tapi perlu ditekankan bahwa film ini bukan film hero-action movie dimana ada karakter yang bertindak sebagai hero yang mempunyai kekuatan super dan membantu semua orang untuk memusnahkan zombie-zombie tersebut. Bukan. Ini murni 'survival' movie, dimana karakter-karakter disini murni menggunakan kekuatan mereka untuk bertahan. Semua action dan stunt nya bagus, cuman tidak akan sebanding jika dibanding dengan yang benar-benar action movie (ex: The Man from Nowhere, The Berlin File, Taegukki, etc). Semua adegan action bagus untuk tipe film ini, dan juga karena inti dari film ini adalah survive jadi tidak ada sekelompok tentara keren dengan peralatan super canggih yang akan membantu mereka membinasakan zombie-zombie ini (seperti World War Z), semua perlawanan murni dilakukan dengan tangan dan badan mereka, juga pemikiran pintar dan alat bantu seadanya yang mereka temukan di kereta. Dan KTX? menurutku ide yang bagus karena bagi sebagian orang korea, kereta/subway/KTX sudah menjadi bagian dari keseharian mereka sehingga mereka bisa terkait langsung dengan film tersebut. Jalan cerita juga ringan dan tidak berat untuk sebuah film zombie, jadi buat orang-orang yang bukan penggemar tema zombie bisa tetap menikmati film ini karena ceritanya yang ringan dan tidak terlalu menyeramkan atau menyedihkan.  

It wasn't some sort of hero-action movie where the main character have some sort of power or ability to defeat the zombies, no. It is pure a survival thing, they use all their power to survive. All the stunt and action are good but not that great if you compare to some other action-hero movie. It just good enough for this type of movie, and also because they main goal is to survive from the massive epidemic there are no badass military or team that will kill the zombie with their over sophisticated machine (like World War Z) its just them fighting with their fist, their brain and whatever fighting equipment they can find in the train. And train? well, it is a fresh idea taking the KTX as the main background because for most Korean KTX is part of their everyday life. The light and easy plot line is another plus point for me, for those who doesn't really enjoy zombie theme movie could easily watch this movie because of not too over depressing plot line even though the movie is full zombie. The editing team was great, they know when to pull and when to push. They know when to makes viewers scream for the zombie and when they have to cheer on the characters. 

I love how every pairing have their own affection, seok woo with his daughter, yong gook with his wife sung gyeon and our cute high school couple Yong Gook and Jin hee. We see how they truly care with one another especially seok woo whom we first seen have not so good relationship with his daughter if only they make this father-daughter story more longer and deeper it would make this movie more amazing. 

Efek CGI sendiri sudah bagus meskipun beberapa adegan masih memerlukan sedikit revisi agar telihat lebih nyata *cough* kecelakaan keeta *cough*, tapi selebihnya bisa diberikan acungan jempol. (tentu, kita tidak bisa membandingkan dengan CGI sekelas film-film Hollywood) dan semua aktor pendukung zombie terlihat sangat nyata, tentu tidak lepas dari kerja keras para make up artists di film ini! Dan semua aktor yang menjadi karakter utama amazing! they did a great job. 

The CGI is good even though some scene still look unreal and have a bad editing *cough* the train wreck *cough*, but it still good. (we can't really compare their CGI to Hollywood CGI) and the zombie actors are all so promising and looks so real. Thanks to their make up artists though! Two thumbs up for all the main actor here, all of them are amazing. No word, just love them here even Ahn So Hee who just join the acting world did a good job.

K-Drama: Kill Me Heal Me (2015)

Banyak yang bilang kalau drama ini salah satu drama terbaik di tahun 2015. Ratting yang tinggi, juga berbagai pujian dan review yang bagus dilontarkan oleh berbagai kalangan kepada baik para actor, sutradara maupun pelunis naskah (re:scriptwriter). Mungkin salah satu alasannnya mengapa drama ini banyak disukai banyak orang adalah tema dan ceritanya yang cukup unik. Romance, komedi, sedikit action, hilang ingatan, chaebyeol** dan juga rahasia kelahiran adalah semua elemen yang bikin drama korea 'tenar' ada di drama ini.

Many said, this was one of the best drama in 2015. Tons of praise and compliment addressed to both of the actors, director and scrip-witter. I guess one of the reason why this drama is getting so much love is because the unique theme and plot. Name it, romance, comedy, a little bit action, amnesia, chaebyeol and also secret birth elements are present on the drama. 

Bercerita tentang Cha Do Hyun (played by Ji Sung) sebagai seorang chae-byeol (sebutan untuk seseorang yang mempunyai latar belakang keluarga konglomerat) dan juga pewaris tunggal dari Seungjin Group. Setelah selamat dari sebuah insiden yang menimpanya di waktu kecil, Do Hyun kehilangan ingatannya dan beberapa waktu kemudian ia menderita D.I.D atau berkrepibadian ganda. Seiring berjalannya drama, ada 7 kepribadian yang memakai tubuh Cha Do Hyun secara bergantian dan semua bermunculan pada waktu yang tidak terduga. Oh Ri Jin (played by Hwang Jeung Eum) adalah psikiatris yang nantinya akan menjadi dokter rahasia untuk Cha Do Hyun, ia berusaha membantu Cha Do Hyun untuk menghilangkan kepribadian lain dalam Cha Do Hyun. Oh Ri On (played by Park Seo Jun) adalah saudara kembar dari Oh Ri Jin, seorang penulis hebat dengan nama pena Omega. Ia sangat dekat dengan Oh Ri Jin, dan diam-diam memilki obsesi tentang kehidupan probadi Cha Do Hyun. 

The story tells about Cha Do Hyun (played by Jisung) as chae-byeol (Korean terms from someone who came from conglomerate background) and the only heir of Seungjin group. When he was a children he overcome a traumatic incident that resulting of lost memory before the incident and later he suffered from D.I.D or later we known as Multi-personalities Disorder. As the drama goes, we know that there is 7 other personalities that share Cha Do Hyun's body and they always came unpredictably. Then there is Oh Ri Jin (played by Hwang Jeung Eum) a first year female resident whom later became a secret psychiatric for Cha Do Hyun. She's willing to help Cha Do Hyun to get rid of his other personality. Oh Ri On (played by Park Seo Joon) is Oh Ri Jin twin brother who are secretly obsessed with Cha Do Hyun personal life, he is a writer under a pen name Omega. 

Aku pribadi terkesan dengan kemampuan akting dari Ji Sung, dia bukan hanya memerankan satu karakter saja melainkan 7 karakter yang tentunya memilki ciri khas yang berbeda-beda. Akting Ji Sung memerankan semua karakter tersebut menurutku sukses tanpa cacat. Kalau Hwang Jung Eum sendiri, tidak usah diragukan lagi, di industri per-fileman korea dia sudah dikenal dengan 'ratu-nya' drama romantic comedy, ia itu seorang aktris yang bisa membuat penonton tertawa saat ia tertawa dan menangis saat ia menangis. Selain Ji Sung yang jelas memerankan banyak karakter, karakter Oh Ri On yang diperankan oleh Park Seo Jun juga terlihat memiliki banyak rahasia, ada kala ketika pada menit ini ia akan tertawa dan bertingkah seperti orang lugu namun pada menit berikutnya ia berubah menjadi seorang yang serius dan juga misterius. Tapi, alih-alih melihat Park Seo Jun dan Hwang Jung Eum bertingkah seperti anak kembar, aku malah lebih melihat kearah hubungan cinta satu arah mungkin karena perhatian yang agak berlebihan yang ditunjukan Ri On kepada Ri Jin. *oh, kalian liat aja nanti*

I was so impressed by Ji Sung acting skill, he must act not just one but seven different character in here and every character have really different personality and charms and he did it so great that makes you instantly knew when he switch personality. As for Hwang Jung Eum, she is known as the queen of romantic comedy so you will have no doubt about her acting skill here. She also have great chemistry with both of the male actor (Ji Sung and Park Seo Jun), she is the type of female lead that will make you laugh when she laugh and cry when she cry. Aside from Ji Sung who played a lot of character, Park Seo Jun character also seems have a lot of secret, one time he was laughing and acting like an idiot and another minute he was so serious and mysterious.  But rather seeing him and Hwang Jung Eum act like sibling, I see them more like a one side love thing maybe the unusual attention that Oh Ri On give to Oh Ri Jin makes me see otherwise. *oh, you'll see*. 

Awalnya aku para pemeran utama akan berjuang melawan para karakter antagonis (Paman dan Sepupu Cha Do Hyun) disini, karena drama ini punya unsur Chaebyeol jadi besar kemungkinan kalau akan ada konflik tentang perebutan harta warisan atau kekuasaan di perusahaan. Sebenarnya konflik-konflik seperti tadi ada, cuman bukan konflik utama dari drama ini. Konflik utama tentu saja seputar Cha Do Hyun dan banyak kepribadiannya, juga mengungkap rahasia yang selama ini disimpan oleh ayah dan nenek Do Hyun. 

At first at thought our main leads will 'fight' with the bad guys from this drama (Cha Do Hyun's great uncle and cousin), because these are chaebyeol theme drama and there are possibilities of fighting for Inheritance exist as a problem. Well I wasn't completely wrong about that, there are that kind of matter but it wasn't the story main focus. The main focus of the drama are Do Hyun's many personality and the secret that Do Hyun's father and grandma have been keeping. 

Dan untuk kisah cintanya, bukan diantara para pemeran utama karena dua diantaranya berstatus sebagai saudara kembar, tapi antara Cha Do Hyun dan salah satu kepribadiannya yaitu Shin Se Gi yang sama-sama memperebutkan Oh Ri Jin.

and for the love line, I thought it's going to be between the three main lead. But I was wrong, it was more unique than you thought, because Cha Do Hyun rival is none other than his other personality, Shin Se Gi. So, they basically the same person!

And let's talk about the personalities, who have been the main topic of this drama.

1. Cha Do Hyun

Kepribadian utama, sebagai ahli waris tunggal dari Seungjin group. Selalu berpikir matang dalam mengambil segala keputusan, bisa dibilang lemah-lembut dan sedikit pasif.

The main personality, the sole heirs of Seung Jin group. Always think carefuly about his next move, soft-heart, he is more like puppy, adorable and always obedient what other people said especially his grandma.

2. Shin Se Gi

Kepribadian yang lebih sering muncul diantara kepribadian yang lain, memilki sifat kebalikan dari Cha Do Hyun, cenderung kasar dan tidak berpikir sebelum bertindak. Namun ternyata dia memilki sifat kekanak-kanakan terutama di depan Ri Jin. Dia yang pertama menyatakan cinta kepada Ri Jin. 

The second personality that shows more often than the other, have opposite personality from Cha Do Hyun, tend to be rude and act recklessly.  But have this childish side, especially in front of Oh Ri Jin. He is the first one who declare his love to Oh Ri Jin. 

3. Perry Park

Kepribadian paling 'tua' diantara kepribadian lainnya, pria paruh baya yang ahli merakit bom. Punya cita-cita memilki kapal untuk berlayar sendiri.

The oldest personality, he is an ahjushi (korean term of middle age man). Talk with acent.  He is an expert for making bomb, have the desire to have his very own boat.

4. Ahn Yo Sub

Kepribadian 'tergalau' diantara kepribadian lainnya, siswa SMA berusia 17 tahun yang punya pikiran untuk bunuh diri setiap saat.

The most melo personality than the other, a 17 years old boy who always had a suicidal thought. 

5. Ahn Yo Na

Kepribadian yang paling sulit dikendalikan, siswi SMA berusia 17 tahun dan saudara kembar dari Ahn Yo Sub. Layaknya gadis remaja, Yo Na punya tingkah laku 'liar' yang sulit dikendalikan. Selalu bertengkar dengan Ri Jin dan sangat menyukai Ri On. 

The most wild personality according to Oh Ri Jin and her proffesor, a teenage girl, 17 years old and Ahn Yo Sub twin sister. Always bicker with Oh Ri Jin and have a huge crush on Oh Ri On.

6. Nana

Tidak banyak tentang Nana, anak perempuan berusia 6 tahun yang suka menggambar. Selain jarang muncul, kepribadian ini ternyata memegang kunci rahasia yang diperlihatkan di akhir-akhir cerita.

Not much about Nana, beside that she's a 6 years old girl who love to draw. We rarely see her until the very end of the drama, though she hold an important key to the story.

7. Mr. X

Kepribadian baru yang muncul di penghujung cerita, meskipun hanya muncul sebentar tapi Mr.X punya peranan penting dari permasalahan yang ada di drama.
